Miyako's example makes it clear to the other game participants what can happen to them if they defy the rules. As head of the student council, she demands an explanation and at the same time refuses to take part in the game, whereupon she is separated from the group within a split second and finds herself on an electric chair in the next room. The others are forced to witness her painful death, and what makes it even more threatening for them is the fact that no one saw who did this to her, making it clear to them that their lives are in the hands of the relentless system .
